A Midwesterner born in Cincinnati and Finance Major from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, Mr. Howard is no stranger to California having worked in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, and Huntington Beach. Before his return to the left coast with his wife of 19 years Kim and 2 children, Fred put in an impressive 25 years at Procter & Gamble, Gillette, and Richardson-Vicks. As Senior Vice President for Gillette, North America, he was responsible for the Oral-B® and Braun® franchises. Also, for two years he lived in Melbourne, Australia where he was responsible for the suite of Gillette products, including Gillette® blades and razors, Duracell®, and Papermate®.
Mr. Howard's role before joining Metagenics was President of the Americas, Australia, and New Zealand for Carl Zeiss Vision. There he was responsible for marketing, sales, prescription manufacturing, and operations. Fred was tasked with leading the advancements for eyewear, prescription lenses, coatings, lab services, and equipment. He was also charged with strengthening the company’s formidable brand, introducing a stream of products, and driving commercial innovations and sustainable success.
So what kind of CEO is Fred Howard? According to him he’s very approachable with an "open-door" attitude. He thinks in chapters, is process-minded, likes to keep things simple, and has high expectations. Most of all, Fred is a brand lover. He's so intrigued with how brands (especially strong ones like Metagenics) allow you to understand a specific message using only a few words or just a logo.
