Louis is another one of our Nobel laureates and an expert on cardiovascular research. He's one of the recipients of the 1998 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for demonstrating the cardiovascular-signaling properties of nitric oxide. His research has been recognized by pharmaceutical companies Lily and Merck, and the American Heart Association awarded him the Basic Research Prize for his contributions to the advancement of cardiovascular science.
We're not the only ones who think he's a pretty smart guy. He holds a BS in pharmacology from Columbia University, a PhD in pharmacology from the University of Minnesota, and received a postdoctoral fellowship in chemical pharmacology from the NIH. Plus he has honorary doctorates from Tulane University and the universities of Argentina, Italy, Uruguay, Paraguay, Czech, and Greece. He's also been inducted into the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
