Bob is a converted functional medicine physician, having started his career in allopathic medicine in U.S. Army hospitals. Today he heads up extramural clinical studies with prototypical Metagenics nutritional formulas and serves on the faculty at the Institute for Functional Medicine and Boston University's medical school.

He received his MD from Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University and his PhD in nutritional biochemistry and metabolism from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is board-certified in internal medicine, and has held leadership positions in nutrition in Boston hospitals.
