What is a medical food?
Medical foods are specially formulated from extracted or combined food components (including macro- and micronutrients and phytochemicals) to support the dietary management of a specific disease or condition, and are to be administered under the supervision of a physician or other licensed healthcare practitioner. Medical foods address the distinctive nutritional requirements of the patient that typically cannot be acquired through an ordinary diet.
