Why did Metagenics replace the rice bran oil in CoQ-10 ST® and CoQ10 ST-100™ with limonene oil (D-limonene)?
Current research suggests that D-limonene oil enhances bioavailability of CoQ10. Limonene, an antioxidant oil found in citrus peel, acts as a solubilizing ingredient for the fat soluble CoQ10. The use of D-limonene results in a markedly improved percent absorption as compared to older formulations of CoQ10, including oil-filled capsules, dry tablets, or powder formulations. Quality CoQ10 formulations containing D-limonene, as available from Metagenics, should significantly elevate serum CoQ10 levels at lower dosing or in patients whose dietary intake or endogenous production is low.
