Estrogen: the Story behind Alpha and Beta Receptors

Presenter: Joel M. Evans, MD

Event Details

Date: January 11, 2018
Time: 11-11:30 AM PT

Webinar Summary:

Many health care practitioners lack awareness regarding the complexities mediating estrogen functions in the body. Patients hear cautionary and confusing language from the media about how certain “estrogenic” foods and plant compounds are potentially dangerous because they stimulate estrogen receptors. Understanding the biochemical mechanisms supporting estrogen interactions with estrogen receptors is critical to effectively differentiate the safe vs. potentially problematic roles of estrogen. This webinar will examine the two types of estrogen receptors, alpha and beta, and how estrogen interactions with its receptors in diverse tissues result in varied effects throughout the body.

At the conclusion of this webinar participants will understand:

  • The differences between estrogen alpha and beta receptor location and function in the body
  • The role of estrogen receptors in various health processes
